Monroe County, Fla.— Open enrollment for health insurance coverage is fast-approaching. Those who do not have health insurance are encouraged to apply during the once-a-year window from November 1 to December 15, 2019. Assistance with applying is offered in Monroe County at no cost.


“No one plans to get sick or hurt, but most people need medical care at some point,” says Michael Cunningham, CEO for Keys AHEC Health Centers and Chair for Access to Care Workgroup. “Health insurance covers these costs and offers many other important benefits, including peace of mind, especially during a time of rising health care costs.”


Free preventive care, such as vaccines, health screenings, and check-ups are offered with health insurance. The following local providers can assist residents with applying for free:

An in-person health forum to answer any questions on health insurance, open enrollment, and Medicare will take place on Saturday, November 9 at the Gato Building on 1100 Simonton Street in Key West from 11AM to 1PM. Everyone is welcome to attend. The forum will be led by Womankind Navigator, Greg Baumann. Refreshments will be provided to attendees by Womankind.
